O Salvador perfeito / The perfect Saviour

As palavras mais profundas alguma vez escritas. A perfeita união (ένωση) do ocidente e do oriente, que só podia acontecer na terra que sempre soube que não pertencia nem a um nem a outro.

Ficaram algum tempo calados sob a árvore em flor. O Buda acariciava lentamente, com compaixão, os cabelos do seu querido discípulo.

— A Salvação significa ser-se salvo de todos os salvadores. É esta a liberdade suprema, a mais elevada, onde só é possível respirar com dificuldade. Será que aguentas?

Ananda baixou a cabeça e não respondeu.

— Ou seja, agora entendes que o perfeito Salvador é...

Por instantes calou-se enquanto brincava com uma flor que tinha caído da árvore:

— É o Salvador que salvará a humanidade da Salvação.

Κάμποση ὥρα ὤμειναν ἀμίλητοι κάτω ἀπὸ τὸ ἀνθισμένο δέντρο. Ὁ Βούδας χάδεψε ἀργά, πονετικά, τὰ μαλλιὰ τοῦ ἀγαπημένου μαθητῆ.

— Σωτηρία θὰ πεῖ νὰ λυτρωθεῖς ἀπ'ὅλους τοὺς σωτῆρες · αὐτή 'ναι ἡ ἀνώτατη λευτεριά, ἡ πιὸ ἀψηλή, ὅπου μὲ δυσκολία ἀναπνέει ὁ ἄνθρωπος. Ἀντέχεις;

Ὁ Ἄναντα εἶχε σκύψει τὸ κεφάλι καὶ δὲ μιλοῦσε.

— Καταλαβείνεις λοιπὸν τώρα ποιὸς εἶναι ὁ τέλειος Λυτρωτής...

Σώπασε, καὶ σὲ λίγο, παίζοντας ἀνάμεσα στὰ δάχτυλά του ἕναν ἀνθὸ πού 'χε πέσει ἀπὸ τὸ δέντρο:

— Ὁ Λυτρωτὴς ποὺ θὰ λυτρώσει τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἀπὸ τὴ λύτρωση.

They remained silent for some time beneath the flowering tree, Buddha slowly, compassionately caressing the beloved disciple's hair.

"Salvation means deliverance from all saviours. This is the supreme freedom, the highest, where a man breathes only with difficulty. Do you have the endurance?"

Ananda had bowed his head. He did not speak.

"In other words, now you understand who is the perfect Saviour..."

He fell silent for a moment, but then, twisting between his fingers a blossom which had fallen from the tree: "It is the Savior who shall deliver mankind from salvation."
